Throughout the average day, the body naturally perspires to regulate heat in the body. In some individuals, natural perspiration is excessive in the feet which results in sweaty feet. This condition is known as Hyperhidrosis and is defined as increased perspiration beyond what is necessary to cool the body. Sweaty feet can result in very smelly feet! Specifically, it is the Thoracic Sympathetic Ganglion Chain, which runs along the vertebra of the spine inside the chest cavity. The chain controls the glands, known as apocrine glands, responsible for perspiration throughout the body. The eccrine sweat glands are mainly concentrated in the hands and the soles of the feet. Sometimes people may perspire heavily because of other illnesses such as hyperthyroidism, psychiatric disorders, menopause and obesity.
